Look at the birdie on the top right. OK there's no birdie but that bar is where you can:
1. Preview how your site will look online.
2. Save (we recommend you do this regularly, even at the risk of sounding like your Mom.)
3. Publish your site online when you're ready.
4. Access our help center anytime.

And now you have come to the deepest darkest pit within which lurk the abandoned sketches and orphaned drawings praying they may one day see the light. This is basically a dumping ground for stuff I think looks nice or wacky.

Swimming Neanderthal and Inflatable Mammoth

These are a couple of drawings I did for a presentation on prehistoric seafaring involving Neanderthals crossing to Crete, (read about it in this ARTICLE). It was suggested by an eminent proffesor that Neanderthals swam to crete!?!?! Seriously, thats a swim of at least 40km even during periods of low sea level. Not impossible but unlikely that a viable population swam all that way.
Some people in the recent past (and even today) used inflated animals or hides, bladders or stomachs as makeshift watercraft (see this PHOTOGRAPH) I like to think Neanderthals were similarly as inventive.

![]() Elephant ratsThis was inspired by a proper doodle in some notes, which was influenced by stuff I read in a book about species that inhabit similar niches evolving into similar body shapes. For instance Paraceratherium (an extinct rhino relative) was shaped more like a heavily built giraffe. Another example is Andrewsarchus, a huge mammal carnivore which was/is related to cows and deer and had hooves. What if everything went extinct and there were only rats or mice to fill all the niches? | ![]() Close up elephant rats |
